The Robert Mabe Band

West Virginia based bluegrass group The Robert Mabe Band is a national touring band delivering driving bluegrass, newgrass, folk, country, and Celtic music to audiences across the USA.

Featuring banjo, upright bass, mandolin, and guitar, this quartet displays an energy and chemistry that will put a smile on your face and get your feet moving.

Robert Mabe (banjo) - Robert grew up in the Hills of North Carolina and had the opportunity to learn for many great traditional bluegrass pickers. Although heavily influenced by traditional music Robert is not afraid to step outside the lines and is equally at home playing banjo in country, jazz, pop, and Celtic jams.

Robert has played Carnegie Hall, The Canadian Embassy and many bluegrass festivals across the country. His latest release "Somewhere in the Middle" features original music written and produced by Robert and received rave reviews from Bluegrass Today and Bluegrass Unlimited.

Dave Shepherd (bass) - From Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and has resided in Philadelphia for the last 8 years. Dave has been with Robert for a total of 6 years and also spent time on the road with Audie Blaylock and Redline in 2015. Dave enjoys playing and listening to all types of music and regularly finds himself in situations playing anything from country to jazz, metal to klezmer, rock to hip hop, and many things in between.

Nate Clendenen (guitar) - Performing over the years with musicians of all genres, Nate Clendenen is steeped in influences all across the board. Rock. Bluegrass. Country. Reggae. Folk. Blues. He's been a professional musician and songwriter since the age of fourteen, has toured in Australia, Brazil, and to all corners of the Continental United States. Furthermore, Nate is a classically trained vocalist and percussionist, an award-winning bluegrass flat picker, and a bonafied road warrior.

Garrett Wren (mandolin) - Garrett grew up listening to his dad playing banjo and his uncle playing the highland pipes which helped expose him to a wide breadth of folk music. After hearing Nickel Creek for the first time, Garrett picked up a mandolin and instantly fell in love with the instrument. In Chicago, he studied under jazz mandolin master Don Stiernberg, Jethro Burn's protege, and was highly influenced by modern mandolin players such as Matt Flinner.

Garrett placed 1st in the DCBU Festival band competition and 1st in the Watermelon Park Mandolin Competition. He also placed 3rd in the national mandolin competition in Winfield, Kansas in 2015 and has toured with the bluegrass punk outfit The Whiskey Gentry. Currently, Garrett works with the Audubon Society to educate children in West Virginia about nature and the environment.
